Can anyone recommend the best place to learn glass fusing in Portland? Something that isn't too terribly expensive?

was just at their website earlier today, pulling the sept. - dec. schedule of classes.
some are spendy, but they generally require an extended interest and experience. the beginners classes seemed reasonable as for price. it depends on what you want to do.

Sun, October 14, 2007 - 10:41 PMIt's a drive, but the closest NON-PROFIT place to learn glass is in Eugene. The Eugene Glass School has fusing, lampwork, a hot shop and a cold working studio. They are an inexpensive place to pick up a great weekend class. www.eugeneglassschool.org is the link.

Re: Portland glass education
Mon, July 31, 2006 - 6:26 PMHello;
Earlier this year I signed up for a 2-day (9-5ish) fusing class through PCC, at Rose's glassworks in SW Portland. They're located off 99-W/Hall. Here's a link to their website:
www.rosesglassworks.com
The class was $249, which included instruction, use of the studio tools & supplies, fusable regular & dichro glass, firing of finished products made in class & Two free independent firings post class. The instructor (Pam McDougal) is excellent; I felt like I learned the basics and can move onto experimenting more on my own.
Although the money seems like much (and for most of us it is), I walked away feeling like I got my money's worth.
PS. I've also seen Cline Glass Studio, located on SE Grand Ave., near the Hawthorne bridge. I don't have any personal experience with them, but if you're on that side of town, classes there may be more convenient?
good luck!
